Strain Breakdown

The Royal Details

Bulk THCA smalls are whole flower, just smaller. Same plants, same cure, same batch lab testing as the full size buds in the Kingdom, sold from an ounce up to a full pound for people buying by weight rather than by looks.

The short version

  • Smalls are the buds that grew lower on the plant, where there was less light. Same plant, same harvest, same cure.
  • Graded by size, not by quality. Once ground, the difference largely disappears.
  • Mediums sit between smalls and full size, and some strains here are labelled that way.
  • The cultivation label tells you more than the strain name does. Greenhouse, Light Assist and Exotic all appear on this listing.
  • USA grown, lab tested by batch, hemp compliant under the 2018 Farm Bill.

What smalls actually are

Cannabis plants do not produce one uniform bud. The flower nearest the top gets the most light and grows the largest. Everything lower down gets less, so it finishes smaller and denser.

Those lower buds are smalls. Same plant, same trichome coverage, same harvest, same cure, same batch testing. They are graded by size, not by quality.

Once it is ground, the difference largely disappears. What you give up is the look in the jar. What you keep is everything that happens after you grind it.

Smalls are not shake and they are not trim

Shake is the loose material that falls off during handling. Trim is the leaf cut away from the bud during manicuring. Smalls are whole, intact buds. All three get sold in bulk and they are not the same product, which is most of why bulk prices vary as widely as they do.

Smalls and mediums

You will see both on this listing, and some strains are labelled [Mediums].

Mediums sit between smalls and full size buds. Same plant, same batch, same testing, slightly larger bud. If you are grinding, the distinction barely matters. If you want the jar to look fuller, mediums do that.

Reading the cultivation labels

Every strain here carries how it was grown, in brackets after the name. That label tells you more about what arrives than the strain name does.

The cultivation labels you will see on this listing.
Label How it was grown What to expect
Greenhouse Under glass using sunlight, with some climate control Reliable and well cured. The value end
Light Assist A greenhouse with supplementary lighting added The extra light usually means denser, tighter buds
Exotic The best selection off the indoor crop The most consistent and the most expensive to produce

Strains rotate as harvests come in. What is listed on the page is what is in stock, and the label next to each name is the part worth reading.

The weight ladder

This listing runs from an ounce up to a full pound.

The four weights, and the grams behind them.
Weight Grams
28 grams An ounce
1/4 LB 112 grams
1/2 LB 225 grams
1 LB 450 grams

Cost per gram falls as the weight rises, and most of that drop arrives early. The step from an ounce to a quarter pound usually saves more per gram than the step from a half pound to a pound.

Work it out yourself: take the price of the pack, divide by the grams, and compare that number against anything else you are looking at. That is the only figure that tells you whether something is actually cheap.

Buy the weight you will actually finish

The most common complaint about bulk flower is that it arrives dry, or dries out before it is used. The second one is on the buyer and it is avoidable.

Flower degrades through exposure to air, warmth and light. A sealed pound in a cool dark cupboard holds for months. The same pound opened daily on a kitchen counter does not.

If you are buying a pound, break it down on arrival. Portion it into smaller airtight jars, glass rather than plastic, add a humidity pack rated 58 to 62% to each, and open only the jar you are working through.

A quarter pound you finish in six weeks will smoke better than a pound you are still halfway through in four months.

Buying bulk for the first time

Take a quarter pound of one strain rather than a pound of something you have not tried. Most of the per gram saving is already there at a quarter, and you will finish it while it is still at its best.

Frequently asked questions

What are THCA smalls?

Whole flower that grew lower on the plant with less light, so it finished smaller. Same plant, same cure, same batch lab testing as the full size buds. Graded by size rather than by quality.

Are THCA smalls shake or trim?

No. Shake is the loose material that falls off during handling and trim is the leaf cut away from the bud. Smalls are whole, intact buds. They are just smaller.

What is the difference between smalls and mediums?

Size, and nothing else. Mediums sit between smalls and full size buds. Same plant, same batch, same testing. Some strains on this listing are labelled as mediums.

How do smalls compare to full size buds?

Once ground, very little difference. Before grinding, the full size buds look better in the jar. That difference in appearance is most of what you pay for when you buy full size.

How much is a pound of THCA smalls in grams?

450 grams. A half pound is 225, a quarter pound is 112, and an ounce is 28. Divide the price by the grams to compare cost per gram across any listing.

What do the cultivation labels mean?

Greenhouse is grown under glass using sunlight with some climate control. Light Assist is a greenhouse with supplementary lighting added, which usually means denser buds. Exotic is the best selection off the indoor crop.

How should I store a bulk order?

Break it down on arrival into smaller airtight jars, glass rather than plastic, with a 58 to 62% humidity pack in each. Keep them cool and dark and open only the one you are using.

Will THCA smalls show up on a drug test?

Assume yes. Standard tests look for THC metabolites and do not distinguish hemp derived from anything else. If you are tested for work or any other reason, do not use it.
