Strain Breakdown

The Royal Details

THCA Snowballs are whole THCA flower coated in THCA isolate. The bud underneath is ordinary flower. The frosted white shell on the outside is what gives them the name, and it is added after the cure rather than grown that way.

The short version

  • Snowballs are flower plus a coating, not a strain and not a different plant.
  • The coating is THCA isolate, a crystalline form of THCA, applied to the outside of a cured bud.
  • Three grades on this listing, and the flower underneath is genuinely different in each.
  • USA grown, lab tested by batch, hemp compliant under the 2018 Farm Bill.

What a THCA snowball actually is

Start with the bud. It is cured flower, the same as anything else in the Kingdom.

What makes it a snowball is what goes on the outside. THCA isolate is THCA in a refined crystalline form. It is applied to the surface of the bud so the outside carries a white, frosted coating that looks like snow. Hence the name.

The buds are only lightly misted with distilled water first, and only where it is needed, so the coating has something to hold on to. That is the entire process. There is nothing else added and nothing infused into the middle of the bud.

Why they look the way they do

The frost on a snowball is not trichome coverage grown on the plant. It is applied after the cure and it sits on the surface, which is why handling matters more with these than with ordinary flower.

The three grades on this listing

Most listings sell one. This one carries three, and the difference is the flower underneath the coating rather than the coating itself.

The three grades, and what changes between them.
Grade The flower underneath Who it suits
Greenhouse Grown under glass using sunlight with some climate control The value option
Indoor Grown entirely under lights with full climate control. Denser and more uniform Buying for the look as well as the smoke
Indoor Smalls The same indoor flower, smaller buds Grinding and rolling in volume

Pick the grade first and the weight second. A coated greenhouse bud and a coated indoor bud are not the same product, even though both arrive frosted.

Choosing a weight

This listing runs from 1 gram up to a full pound, which is unusually wide.

  • 1 gram, to try the format before committing
  • 3.5 and 7 grams, an eighth and a quarter
  • 14 and 28 grams, a half ounce and an ounce
  • 112g, 225g and 450g, the quarter, half and full pound

Take the price, divide by the grams, and compare cost per gram. That is the only figure that holds across grades and across sites.

Smoking them

Joints, blunts, bongs and a dry herb vaporiser all work.

The one thing worth knowing is about the grinder. The coating sits on the outside of the bud, so it comes off when handled. Grind over a tray or a paper rather than over a bin, and whatever collects at the bottom of the grinder is worth keeping rather than tipping out.

A dry herb vaporiser suits them well because the bud never gets handled twice.

Storing them

Airtight, cool and dark, the same as any flower. Glass rather than plastic matters more here than usual, because plastic holds static and static pulls a surface coating straight off the bud.

Add a humidity pack rated 58 to 62% and keep the jar away from windows and out of cars. Handle them as little as you can: every time a coated bud moves between containers, some of the coating stays behind.

Do not freeze them. A frozen coating turns brittle and sheds the moment you touch it.

Trying the format

Take a single gram. This listing is one of the few that sells snowballs by the gram, so you can see what they are like before committing to an ounce.

Frequently asked questions

What are THCA snowballs?

Whole cured flower coated on the outside with THCA isolate, a refined crystalline form of THCA. The frosted white shell is what gives them the name. The bud underneath is ordinary flower and nothing is infused into the middle of it.

Are snowballs a strain?

No. Snowball describes how the product is finished, not what was grown. The strain and the grade underneath the coating are what vary, which is why this listing sells three different grades.

How are THCA snowballs made?

Cured buds are lightly misted with distilled water where needed, then coated with THCA isolate so the crystal holds to the surface. Nothing else is added.

What is the difference between the three grades?

The flower underneath. Greenhouse is grown under glass using sunlight. Indoor is grown entirely under lights with full climate control, so it is denser and more uniform. Indoor Smalls is the same indoor flower in smaller buds.

How should I store THCA snowballs?

Airtight, cool and dark, in glass rather than plastic, with a 58 to 62% humidity pack. Handle them as little as possible, because the coating sits on the surface and comes off with handling. Do not freeze them.

Will THCA snowballs show up on a drug test?

Assume yes. Standard tests look for THC metabolites and do not distinguish hemp derived from anything else. If you are tested for work or any other reason, do not use it.
